Doblo Cargo XL SX Van 1.6 Multijet 16V 105
Just one Cornetto…
I was lucky enough to test the XL recently to see if Fiats claim, that it is a big van in a small package, with pretty much the same capacity as Fiats larger Scudo. On first site, it does look a little ungainly, but Fiat have actually done a pretty good job of integrating the higher roof line into the body. So good in fact, that I happily entered a multi-storey car park in my test van only to scratch the roof on exiting, something that has never happened to me before i.e misjudging the vans height.
As with the Doblo itself, Fiats builds quality in the XL is excellent & light years away from vans of yesteryear. Every part has a built-to-last feel, including the seats which are large, comfortable& offer lumbar adjustment on the driver’s side. The full height bulkhead means that the cab is quiet enough to speak on the Bluetooth Blue&Me system, although at motorway speeds & in the wet you might need to shout a bit to be heard properly. The 1.6 Multijet engine is surprisingly sprightly & when added to by a really smooth gear change achieves the Holy Grail of van driving by making the XL feel almost like driving a car. Those who are still unsure about Fiats reliability should be reassured by the service interval of 21,000 miles & the 3-year/120,000-mile warranty with three years of AA Assurance cover to keep you on the road.
Give it to me…4/5.
